are you reffering to Red Hat Enterprise Linux? or just the Fedora flavor? I'm a big fan of the Mandriva flavor dating back to version 6(or 7 i think...) because of the ease of installation and its user-friendlyness which i do know that several distros have already adapted...

Iam an old time fanatic of Mandrake Linux since version 6, even if they shift or change the name from Mandrake to Mandriva, still iam a fanatic of Linux Mandriva. Mandriva is more easy to install than Redhat (any). visit my site for more detail about linux.  -jim reforma[virushacker23@yahoo.com] http://www.linuxman.2ya.com/

hmm...after using Mandrake and Red Hat for many years, I switched to Ubuntu Stick out tongue

seriously ang gusto ko sa Mandrake/Mandriva, it's optimized for the 586 CPU unlike Red Hat na optimized for the 386 CPU. I also find Mandrake easier to use/administrate.

Go with Ubuntu. It's easier to get help there on the internet.

yup this is true... somebody told me that ubuntu currently holds 60% of the current Linux market share which is pretty impressive considering that this distro is a late boomer.

It's because they shift with free CD's and not just free download I guess. :)

that's certainly one reason. but the more significant reason is that Ubuntu is a distro that pays careful attention to usability and simplicity. it just works Smile

I don't have much space left on my machine, and I am planning to run a Linux OS on Virtual Machine. So, I'd like to ask, probably some of you might already tested this, will Ubutu work if I installed it on Virtual Machine having 4GB of Virtual Harddisk space?

I'm currently downloading Ubuntu Smile

Cheers.

So here's my next question... which would you teach in a class of high school and college students? Ubuntu? Mandrake? Redhat or Suse?

ive been using fedora for quite some time now..

im having second thoughts on trying out ubuntu...ive tried the live cd and i think its great...

if ubuntu is debian based does it mean there are some packages that run on redhat that may not run on ubuntu?

If there's no version of that package for the Debian distro then maybe yes... The safest way I guess to ensure that it would work is to compile the program from source... You'll most probably find the package from the repositories though...
