Yey! jop's link is correct lamia.
it depends on your definition of "free" -- free download? free CD? or free as in free speech?
kung free as in GPL or BSD or whatever, expect a thousand Windows distros to bloom...malilimutan na ang Linux. or iba-backport siguro yun nice Linux features papuntang Windows. and vice-versa.

Free as in "buying a pirated copy of Windows is a stupid act because you can download the source code and installer" free. :D I don't know if free CD is possible. Even linux distro's expect to get paid to send you some CDs.

What I have in mind is that there will be another programming language that will stand like as the non-free version. It is a balance of nature, there will always be a villain. Not today, but it will always be inevitable. Now, the question is, who? whats the name of that OS... will it be another distro of Linux or a Premium version of Windows or something else?

Looks like we will be able to test your theory.

Microsoft did not release it but it's (relatively) the next best thing.
well if Windows was just a free download/CD (not "free speech" or open source) then Linux will still have a reason to exist. for Linux zealots, it has to be free as in "free speech." paano nga naman kung magsara ang Microsoft pagtapos nun (after all, Windows is their cash cow), paano na ang Windows platform? ReactOS to the rescue?
kasi nga naman kung free download lang, for sure limited version lang yan, or may ads (spyware!!! he he).
In my opinion, I'd more than likely still be using Ubuntu Linux, because for as long as Windows is a major virus target, it would still be safer having the choice of running either Windows or Ubuntu on the same machine. That is what I am doing right now. Just in case Windows crashes and it could not be opened for whatever reason, Ubuntu will be able to access my Windows files.
But I really do not have any problems with either OSs in terms of usability. As long as they serve my purpose well, and I have the time to tweak them, I don't think I'll be bitching about either every so often.
