What if Microsoft freed up Windows (GPL AND $0 cost) - who among you would still prefer Linux?

we don't need to prefer Linux; we'll probably merge Linux and Windows! Stick out tongue

Cheater! :D

But what type of "merge"? Aero on top of bash? Vista+Cygwin?

M$ has a place in my heart on this one. I will still stay with Windows and Linux running on VMWare. Why? Darn drivers are so hard to install in Linux! Yeah, there are the readme files but what if I'm not in the mood to read? Plus, the Linux community(except Ubuntu) is so f*ck*ng arrogant!

If Windows "was" free, then that would be cool! I love Windows (98 & XP)!

Windows is much more userfriendly than linux. I can't imagine how hard it would be to teach my dad how to install his webcam in linux via phone. That's going to be really really hard.

I would give my Dad a Mac. :D

But how about you? Would you prefer Linux over Windows of there is no difference in price and potential functionality?

I'll still prefer Windows over Linux because of the usability standpoint. It's easier to use compared to Linux.

A funny observation though... I hope this isn't too off-topic.

If I have Windows, I would try to virtualize Linux in it. Or maybe have a separate partition for Linux.

If I have Linux, I could set aside windows(and not bother running it in a virtual machine or something). Lolz

People would even make their windows have the look and feel of a mac!A

Yeah, I notice that to. Also, like other people have a version of windows, and they make it look like another version. Hehehe.

A little of topic: Have you guys ever tried "Mac on a Stick"? It's sorta an old mac OS you can run in your memory sticks.

if Windows was GPL, we'd all start by porting Windows drivers to Linux. yun naman pinakamalaking balakid sa Linux eh.

I also did that. In Windows, I used WindowBlinds to make it look like a Mac.

When I got to linux, I also got a theme to make Gnome or KDE look like a Mac.

But now that I'm on a Mac, I stopped doing that. I guess I've matured a bit and I'm no longer into that thing?
Or probably...

Well, I don't think so.

We've got a number of responses already and so far no one have responded that they'll still prefer Linux over Windows.

From the looks of it, making Windows free would bring the death of Linux! At least within the devpinoy community. :D
